Responsibilities

Software & Firmware Engineer Responsibilities:

  • — Performs software engineering-related tasks in support of one or more of the following: armament embedded systems, system security, system interoperability and integration, aircraft/store integration, weapon data link, mission planning systems, modeling and simulation, weapon effectiveness analysis, virtual simulation and training technology, airborne range test and training instrumentation datalink communications, and acquisition lifecycle and logistics product support.
  • — The design and application of Real-Time Operating Systems used for guidance and control, GPS navigation, real-time execution of special operations and implementation of safety controls; applications of commercially available microprocessor units (MPUs) that utilize written code to operate control systems, execute requirements from special algorithms (e.g., Kalman filters), control and operate peripheral equipment, and manage data transfer and communication.
  • — Anti-Tamper by analyzing procedures and developing specifications for Systems Security Engineering activities intended to deter and/or delay exploitation of critical technologies of an Armament System.
  • — Information Assurance by analyzing procedures and developing specifications for Information Assurance as it pertains to air-to-air and air to ground weapon systems in compliance with Department of Defense Instruction 5200.44.
  • — Supply Chain Risk Management by analyzing procedures and developing specifications for the implementation of Supply Chain Risk Management as it pertains to Armament Systems in compliance with Department of Defense Instruction 4140.01 DoD Supply Chain Materiel Management Policy.
  • — Platform Information Technology (PIT) by analyzing procedures and developing specifications for Platform Information Technology (a special category of information system, which employs computing resources (i.e., hardware, firmware, and software), that is physically embedded in, dedicated to, or essential in real-time to the mission performance) as it pertains to Armament Systems Information Assurance (IA).
  • — Aircraft/store integration by analyzing host aircraft/store compatibility requirements and developing interface control documents for captive carriage and release/launch of Armament Systems in compliance with MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-3014, MIL-A-8591, and Universal Armament Interface (UAI) protocols.
  • — Development, integration, testing, and deployment of Armament Systems and their associated weapon data links to include definition of data link interoperability, interfaces, and verification and test assessment requirements.
  • — Technical requirements development, planning, cybersecurity implementations, information assurance and system/ program protection implementations, E3 analysis, spectrum management, standards implementations, information technology analysis, engineering and technical analysis, test and control functions necessary to assure that the integrated system elements satisfy compatibility and performance requirements (i.e., operational, technical, derived, horizontal, and inherited) established over the life cycle of armament and range systems.
  • — Design and development of air-to-ground and air-to-air datalink communications.
  • — Development, integration, testing, and deployment of Armament Systems and their associated weapon data links to include definition of data link interoperability, interfaces, and verification and test assessment requirements.
    — Analyzing weapon and user requirements for derived subsystem requirements associated with navigation and guidance systems; understanding of operational real-time planning and pre-planning systems for the employment of weapon systems in tactical aircraft and unmanned aerial systems; and development of mission planning support systems of active and passive weapon guidance systems.
  • — Supporting and conducting simulation studies to include but not be limited to system and component performance, engineering trade-offs, system effectiveness, and logistics.
  • — Evaluating the effectiveness of conventional and nuclear munitions against tactical and strategic targets; developing a probability of kill versus miss distance tables to be used against air and ground targets; maintaining databases for weapon effectiveness information; and supporting aircraft weapons effectiveness data reduction, analysis, research, development, acquisition, test, & evaluation.
Qualifications

 What you will need as a Software & Firmware Engineer:

  • — BS + 5 years of relevant experience OR MS + 3 years of relevant experience
  • — Secret Security Clearance
  • — US Citizen
  • — Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
  • — Programming experience with C++ and/or Python

Paragon is looking for a talented Journeyman Level Software and Firmware Engineer to support the Advanced Programs Division, AFLCMC/EBS. Their mission is to develop, test, acquire, modernize, integrate and support affordable and sustainable advanced, high-impact special program armament technologies and capabilities to meet warfighter requirements – Air Force (AF), Joint Service (JS) and Special Operations Forces (SOF) – including highly-classified, high-payoff air-to-air and air-to-ground technologies, hard target defeat, asymmetric and directed energy weapons and targeting and battle damage assessment.  Paragon Solutions supports more than a half dozen programs with engineering services to help the Armament Directorate with their mission.
